"An American Prayer" was written as
a wake up call to America. It is a serious
reminder of where we are with respect
to our divisions, need for spiritual renewal
and a return to moral values.
An American Prayer

I thank you Lord for American life
Keep us from descending into deep dark night
Don't take your hedge of protection away
Like in the past and in olden days
When nations rebelled and took pride in their shame
Why even our children take your name in vain
Don't give up on us, send your bright sunshine in
Come and revive us again
Chorus:
Awaken the captains asleep at the wheel
Send wisdom and justice, teach them until
They understand taking your name from this place
Is denying our birthright, once signed in your grace
Send the sound of music in your time and tone
Shape every note into harmony's song
'Till even the tone deaf can hear the sweet strain
Come and renew us again
Chorus:
I thank you Lord for American life
Keep us from descending into deep dark night
Wash clean her heart, send penitent tears
Remember her youth, forgive her rebel years
Don't give up on us, send your bright sunshine in
Come and revive us again
In peace and goodwill, let your healing begin
Come and renew us again
Come and revive us again
Come and unite us again
