"Teri" was written in February 2005 before the March 18th removal of Terri Schiavo's feeding tube. The right to live vs. the right to die fire storm yet to come could not have been imagined. As I write, Terri is in her 8th day without nourishment or water. On this Easter eve, the Schindler family's final request for legal recourse has been denied. And it looks as though, barring a miracle, Terri's battle is ending. It is my hope that she will live to hear this song. I feel certain she has been dealt an untimely, unnecessary, unjust, and, yes, an unlawful death sentence. Shame on those with an obsessive determination to end the life of a disabled innocent. I wonder if they will have the wisdom and humility to ask God to have mercy on their souls? |

Terri I believe that you can hear me
I don't believe for a second you're not there
Your undeniable smile and the twinkle in your eye
Should dismiss any doubt you are aware
Chorus:
And Terri do you know we're praying for you
In some distant kindred way we're all like you
So keep your candle burning bright
And in some nearby day you might
Just be the Terri girl your world and you once knew
I've been watching the news and from my point of view
You are gaining a little ground each day
And words can't express, we can only guess
There are volumes to speak if you could say
Just how much you still enjoy the life around you
Like the gentle hand of love brushing your hair
And just today I heard you're into music
So this song is just to let you know we care
