My Soldier
Patti Clark Barnett ©2003
Over the ocean in the sands of the desert
Lives a direct descendant of the father of lies
War clouds are gathering and I can’t imagine
Why anyone thinking would have to ask why
But I know somebody who’d die for his country
And fight for the right of all men to be free
And the least we can do is stand undivided
United America is one family
Chorus:
‘Cause he’s the one that I love
And the daddy of my little children
He’s the son of a loving mother and dad
But the cause he believes in
He knows is much greater
Than all of the comforts and good times he’s had
We pray day and night that God will protect you
From danger and harm and fear keep you free
But, Lord, for myself I’m asking just one thing
Please bring back home safely my soldier to me
Chorus:
For heroes who willingly go for their country
And fight for the right of all men to be free
The least we can do is stand undivided
United as America’s one family
Chorus:
‘Cause they’re the ones that we love
The mothers and daddies of babies, they’re the sons
And daughters of loving mothers and dads
But the cause they believe in they know is much greater
Than all of the comforts and good times they’ve had
I know somebody who’d die for his country
And fight for the right of all men to be free
But, Lord, for myself I’m asking just one thing
Please bring back home safely my soldier to me
